Home Base

Westman Aerial Spraying Ltd. has been working since 1995 to create a base of operations that not only allows us to operate efficiently, but also meets all safety standards and promotes a positive image of our industry to those that drive by or come to visit.  We are finally nearing the end of the major construction projects at our site.  In the future, most of the changes will be better classed as improvements.  Our home base is located 8 miles east of Brandon on the south side of the TransCanada Highway (see map).  This location has served us and our customers well because of its central location and easy access.

Prior to arriving at this location the company worked from a small grass airstrip southwest of Brandon.  Although we miss or first location we are extremely pleased to have relocated and developed this new site that we call home.

A Brief History

A brief history of our progress follows with a few pictures.  Please feel free to click on the thumbnail images for a better look at the pictures.

1989 - 1995

In 1989 our company set up shop southwest of Brandon on a piece of leased land.  All we had at this location was two garden sheds, fuel and portable mixing equipment.  We had to haul all of our water to this site.  Most of our work was carried out near our spray sites by working off of roads.

1995

In 1995 Westman Aerial Spraying Ltd. purchased an 80 acre parcel of land near Douglas, MB.  We did this with the intent of building an approved pesticide storage warehouse.  This was necessary if we were to stay in the business of selling the product we sprayed for our customers.  The site of the warehouse was an open field on the south side of the TransCanada highway.  The warehouse construction began in August.  While we completed the site preparation for the warehouse we also began construction of a grass runway from which we would do most of our flying in the future.

1996

In 1996 we took the next step in making this our home base.  The company constructed a house and I took up permanent residence here in June.  Now the big move took place.  We vacated our location south of Brandon permanently and started working from our new location.  Since grass on the runway was not established enough just yet, we continued to work from roads and the Brandon Airport.
